Fundraiser for Children In Crossfire
On 2nd June a quiz will be held in Rosatos Bar, Malin Road, Moville.
Admission: €3 per person.
Last year, local teacher Rose Kelly, along with Aine Richardson
and fisherman Kevin O'Leary climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of
the Children in Crossfire charity. While they were there, they spoke
to a local priest at one of the local villages. He told them that
because of a lack of rain that year, most of the villagers crops
just withered away. The most disappointing thing is that there is
a river which runs quite close by, but they weren't able to carry
enough water from it to save crops. So, Rose Kelly and Children
in Crossfire decided that they would do something about it. They
are trying to raise €5,000. This would give them enough money
to build an irrigation channel from the river to the crops and would
guarantee the crops every year. The last quiz at Rosatos raised
around €270. Also, someone who heard about the good work and
the need for an irrigation channel handed Rose €200 anonymously.
They have raised about one-third of the money for the irrigation
channel so far and hope to raise more on the 2nd June. There was
high drama at the last quiz where a team from Scotland, related
to the McLaughlins (painters) let by 12 points going into the last
round - and lost by 4 points. The last round was one of those where
you had to guess the person through a series of clues, with the
number of points you could score depreciating by two points for
each clue given. It started at 30 points. The answer was Senator
Edward Kennedy. However, some teams, including the current leaders,
rushed up convinced it was John Kennedy at the 26 points stage.
The winning team, consisting of locals Ciobbhean Barr of the Derry
Journal and Simon McGeady of the Inish Times waited and waited till
the 16 points mark so that they could eliminate two of the Kennedy
brothers and then pounced - giving them the victory by 4 points.
It should be great fun again - with possibly more high drama.
