Building Programme for Schools
Gleneely National School expected to receive some good news when
Education Minister Mary Hanafin arrived in Inishowen for a whistlestop
tour.
Ms. Hanafin is expected to announce that Gleneely will be among
192 schools to be allocated funding for extensions and refurbishment,
as part of this year's €46 million building programme.
Each of the chosen projects will proceed immediately on a devolved
basis, which means the school authorities will control the planning
and construction phases of the improvement works at their own school.
Gleneely N.S. has been chosen under the primary schools to benefit
under the Small and Rural Schools Initiative with an allocation
of €28 million. This funding will allow twice as many schools
to undertake projects compared with last year.
The rate of funding for individual schools is being increased by
up to 25% . The Small and Rural Schools initiative is aimed at primary
schools where enrollment numbers are stable and aims to address
accommodation requirements over the next decade.
Ms. Hanafin who attended conference on promoting Inishowen in Buncrana
will also visit Buncrana's Gael Scoil, Scoil Iosagain as well as
the peninsula's second level schools.
