Inishowen planning for playgrounds
Towns around Inishowen could be in line to get children's playgrounds
in the mould of Buncrana's popular Festival Park. Moville and Carndonagh
already have plans to develop fitted out play areas for kids and
this week Inishowen TD, Cecilia Keaveney met with Arts, Sports and
Tourism Minister John O'Donoghue to discuss developing projects
in the peninsula.
Deputy Keaveney said Buncrana have a wonderful playground which
I know they wish to expand. Moville, Carndonagh and most of our
smaller towns have plans too. I will discuss the matter with both
Junior Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children,
Brian Lenihan and Minister Dick Roche, to see how best these plans
can be realised."
Community and Enterprise Development Officer with Donegal County
Council, Aideen Doherty, outlined that she had received over 30
applications to a recent call for expressions for interest from
community groups interested in the development of facilities in
the area. She said that they have recently been prioritising projects
for each electoral area.
Moville/Greencastle based councillor, Marian McDonald, said the
Moville Tidy Towns Committee had been "pushing for a safe playground"
for years. "I would welcome any assistance that Deputy Keaveney
can offer the Moville Playgound Group and I would like to commend
the group for being so proactive with this initiative. "A fully
equipped playground would complement Síl na Sláinte
(Path of Health) walkway for which Deputy Keaveney secured funding,"
she said.
