Henry Girls still going strong in the Eurovision Competiton.
The competition began late last year and in that time the three
McLaughlin sisters from Drumaville, Malin, have been captivating
national audiences with their unique talent, versatility and confidence
on stage.
The group are made up of Lorna (28), Karen (30) Joleen (20), and
their Belfast guitarist Stephen Murray (35). They have shown versatility
on the show with a number of musical styles, such as country rock,
Motown and they even ventured into U2 territory singing their own
unique version of the Dublin band's worldwide hit 'Vertigo'. They
were asked to cover a Corr's number. They have a distinctive original
sound, inspired by Irish traditional, folk/rock and modern American
Country.
They are firm in the belief that an Irish traditional act would
be the best choice for Ireland's representation in Kiev. "Ireland
has one of the richest musical traditions with mass appeal all over
the world. The Irish are very proud of their musicianship and we
should be capitalizing on that tradition for Eurovision. I think
the judges recognise that. In our opinion, it wouldn't be right
to send out an act that sounds American to represent Ireland. The
Henry Girls hope they can make it through the next few weeks to
reach the final which will take place over two nights. Saturday
5th March and Sunday 6th March. They are "delighted and very
grateful" for all the fantastic support they have received
to date.
