Funding for Donegal Heritage
The Heritage Council has announced funding of €52,000 which
is being offered to successful applicants for 8 local heritage projects
which will be carried out this year in Donegal.
The funding is being offered to Rathmullan 21 for a conservation
study for Rathmullan Abbey; Derry and Raphoe Action for the promotion
of awareness of the Planning 2000 Act for owner/occupiers of Donegal
churches; Donegal Railway Restoration for the collection and conservation
of irreplaceable railway heritage items: Donegal County Archives
for a schools programme; Christoher Aldwell for a survey of Butterflies
in Donegal and Donegal Heritage Office received two grants, for
a series of public seminars to raise awareness of the natural, built
and cultural heritage in graveyards and for an awareness campaign
to promote heritage centres and museums in Donegal.
The funding has been offered to community groups, individuals,
businesses and educational institutions for projects that will contribute
to the protection and enhancement of our national and local heritage.
The projects will be implemented in every county in the country
covering a diverse mix of interests including protecting endangered
birds such as owls, terns and partridges, raising awareness of dolphins,
reviving interest in coppercraft and folklore, restoring heritage
buildings, street furniture, holy wells an orchard and a walled
garden, public seminars, research studies, books and information
campaigns. The categories include: Local Hertitage, Wildlife, Publications,
Museums and Archives, Architcture Research and Archaeology.
A further funding package for Heritage Buildings at Risk will be
annonced later this year. The funding comes from the National Lottery.
