Parents urged to use their votes

Parents in Inishowen are being urged to use their vote now that an unique historical opportunity has arisen for them to have a direct and meaningful say in the education of their children.

The vocational Education (Amendment) Act 2001 gives parents the right to elect members to the Donegal Vocational Education Committee which oversees and manages all Vocational Schools and Adult Education centres in Donegal.

Elections will take place on Friday the 8th of October from 9am to 9pm at polling stations in all vocational schools.

Parents will be allowed to vote for one woman and man to represent them and their children in the management of their schools.

Helen McIntyre has been nominated by Moville Community College Parent's Association to go forward for election onto the VEC. Helen is the only candidate from the Inishowen area to go forward for election.

The Vocational Educational Committee is responsible for funding and the provision of teachers and special needs assistants in all VEC schools. They are also responsible for seeking and allocating funds for the VEC education system.
