New Inishowen Community Radio CD

Inishowen Community Radio are releasing a double CD later this month. It is entitled 'Legends of Myth and Magic from Inishowen' and read by ICR Chairman Jimmy McBride.

The stories are recorded in both Irish and English, and include 'The Man Who Spent Seven Years As a Seal, which originated in Urris, the last place where Irish was spoken in the peninsula.

There is a lot of interest in storytelling of this type, and according to Jimmy, would have been a vital part of community life in the years before radio and television provided the bulk of our everyday entertainment.

These stories are a relic of past times, said Jimmy, and are of a historical value and give younger people an insight into what life was like. I think youngsters will be able to relate to these stories. The imagery of a seal walking and talking is no more fantastical than Shrek for example.

The double CD cost €20. It will be on sale in the bookshops, record shops and other outlets in Inishowen as well as from the Radio Station following the official launch on the 24th November.
