German film crew to visit Inishowen
A German camera crew is due to pay an extended visit to Inishowen
this summer, to chat with local people and learn about the impact
of the hugely successful Foyle Ferry.
Tony McLaughlin, of Inishowen Tourism, told The Inish Times, "A
woman called Carola Meyer, who I understand is one of the most well-respected
cultural reporters in Europe was in touch to organise the visit.
The crew will arrive around the 7th June to make a documentary for
Nord Deutcsche Rundsunk television. They are especially keen to
talk to people who live locally and use the ferry for commuting."
Interviewees are likely to include Gemma Havlin of Maritime Museum
and Planetarium, Conor Daly of Donegal Tourism and Seamus Bovaird
of Foyle Fishermen's Co-op.
According to Tony, the producers will also be keen to learn a lot
about Inishowen people and culture as well.
Hopefully they will also be able to have a quick look at the new
Swilly Ferry which should just be up and running by the time they
arrive!
"It's amazing how our little corner manages to attract the
attention of people the world over. The programme will give Inishowen
valuable publicity and because of its nature, no doubt help attract
tourists who are genuinely interested in our traditions, environment,
people and culture," Tony concluded
