Carndonagh Students Show Most Concern
Students at Carndonagh Community School who participated in this
year's Sponsored Fast in aid of Concern, raised nearly €12,400,
outperforming every other school in the province by more than 400%.
The students were honoured at a recent ceremony in Dublin, where
Fr Page spoke of his pride at all the hard work they put in.
"It's great to see the students work so hard for such a worthwhile
cause. We are keen supporters of the Concern Fast and luckily we
get great support from the local community in our fundraising efforts.
I'm thrilled we achieved such a great result this year," he
said.
Their final tally from the Concern Fast 2003 shows that over €115,000
was raised by schools, businesses and individuals all over Ulster.
A total of more than €67,500 of this was raised in Donegal.
Mr Tom Arnold, Chief Executive of Concern Worldwide, said that
the time and effort put in by people around the country is inspiring.
"We are deeply grateful to everyone who participated in the
fast last November. It was a record year with more people fasting
than ever before. We could not continue our vital work in some of
the world's poorest countries without the ongoing generosity of
the Irish Public.
Over 100,000 people throughout Ireland supported the Concern Fast
last November which raised over €2 million. Nationwide around
245 companies and 250 secondary schools took part.
