MARCH 2004
Carndonagh Community School pupils in Tarvisio
For the third year in a row, a group of students and teachers from
Carndonagh Community School set off on a mid-term skiing holiday.
Leaving at 5am on Sunday 15th February for Tarvisio, a town in the
eastern Alps of Italy. It is a popular ski resort and students from
Kildare, Limerick, Dublin and Ballyshannon were also spending the
week. The teachers this year were Ms. Nabla McGeehin (group leader),
Mr John McGuinness, Ms. Elizabeth Kelly, and Mr. Pat McGonagle.
Lessons were given on the slopes every morning from the 'Maestro
di Ski' instructors and with their help by the end of the week,
there were experts to be seen in both the 'snow plow' and the 'parallel'
techniques.
With skiing during the day and numerous night activities such as
ice-skating, wall-climbing and discos - there was little time to
spare in Tarvisio.
The teachers and group arrived home minus any major casualties
or catastrophes! With hours of skiing, a top class hotel in superb
surroundings and Ms. McGeehin's emergency lessons in conversational
Italian, there was never a dull moment in Tarvisio. Thanks to the
teachers and a great group, the week was a major success and thoroughly
enjoyed by all.
