New Information Map Launch for Inishowen
Pat Doherty, the man behind Doagh Famine Village, recently launched
a laminated and very detailed Tourism Information Poster about Inishowen
in Simpson's Carndonagh. The idea behind this new venture is that
many hotels, bars, restaurants and other public places in the area
will display the Information Poster which contains a map of the
peninsula, courtesy of Inishowen Tourism, and also carries a series
of adverts cross-referenced to where most of our main attractions
are located and how to contact them. This should enable tourists
who are staying locally to plan their itinerary and hopefully when
they see how much is on offer they will stay longer. In attendance
at the launch were many of the advertisers, among them: Jim McClenaghan,
Foyle Ferry company; Tony McLaughlin, Inishowen Tourism, Scalp Mountain:
David Magee, Fort Dunree; Patsy Cavanagh, The Cairn Theatre Greencastle;
Doris Russo, Glenevin Waterfall; Peter McAvenue, The Curiosity Shop,
Malin Head; John Campbell, Bizz Cards Ltd and Lowry Wasson, Moville
Pottery.
Other advisers who were unable to attend and sent their apologies
were: Inch Island and Lenamore Stables; John Henry McLaughlin, Carrowmore
Boating Company; Ballyliffin Golf Club; Inishowen Maritime Museum;
The Flough; Leisure Land; and Inishowen Bogwood Sculptures.
At an informal meeting following the launch a number of items on
the promoting of Inishowen were raised. Most important was how best
to deal with extra access to this area going from two points to
four or indeed five if you include City of Derry airport. The importance
of signage was also stressed, as was the necessity of our local
politicians to work together for the greater good of the peninsula.
Another point was how best to utilise the information points at
both Greencastle and Buncrana and how to maximise the method of
getting information about this area out, to not only to this country
as a whole, but to Great Britain and further afield.
