Second and Third Place for Faulkner at Donnington Park
Moville racing driver Damien Faulkner kept up his good run in this
season's Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain with a second and third
place at Indy Brands Hatch Circuit. Faulkner, who lies 12th position
despite having missed the first eight rounds of the championship,
held off a late charge by championship contender Richard Westbrook
to claim second place behind Jason Templeman in the first race on
Sunday.
The first race of the weekend was especially though for Faulkner
as he fought to fend off championship leader Tim Harvey. The battle
between Harvey and Faulkner came to a head at Graham Hill Bend on
the 19th lap when the cars touched. In an instance, Harvey was though
to second and Westbrook closed right in on Faulkner. But Harvey's
luck was about to run out when he picked up a rear puncture and
was forced to post his first retirement of the season.
"I was just happy to finish second, I thought Richard was
going to get me in the end" said the Moville man. Faulkner,
who races for Motorbase Performance Team, was pleased with his weekend's
work and his progress since joining the Porsche Carrera Cup mid
season.
"I'm definitely up to speed now. I've had the speed in official
tests, set some of the fastest laps on Friday testing and already
had a second placed finish at Croft earlier this season." Damien
made a name for himself earlier this summer at Knockhill when he
passed ten cars after starting at the back of the grid to finish
4th position.
Following his displays for the Motorsport Performance team this
summer Damien is sure to be in demand. He says it's too soon to
say whether he will be back with the team next year.
