St. Brigid's Well, Balleighan
The worship of water as represented in well was a rite first practised
by the Druids. After the coming of Christianity, these wells were
blessed by the Saints and became Holy Wells, There are many such
wells in this area.
Following the upper Greencastle Road in the direction of Shrove
on the left side is a good example of one of these wells. A single
stone cross sits above the well, known as St. Brigid's Well.
