CORN STORE
The Corn Store building was built in 1860 as a mill. It was owned
by Daniel McDermott of Moville, Inishowen, Co Donegal.
On 26th November 1897, Daniel McDermott sold the building to John
Bradley also from Moville. John Bradley died 28th April 1917 and
by his will appointed John Cavanagh to be the trustee of the building.
John Cavanagh then died on the 3rd June 1932 leaving the building
to his wife Caroline and son Dennis. Caroline died on 27th June
1942 and around this time the mill closed and presumably lay dormant.
On the 7th July 1960 Dennis died leaving the building to Elenor
Mary Cavanagh, the sole executrix. On the 1st August 1974 Bernard
Doherty bought the building as he had been renting it for some time
and using it as a carpentry/joinery shop. He closed the business
in 1988. He then sold the building to North East Inishowen Tourist
and Development Company Limited on 21st October 1996, who reconstructed
the building into luxury holiday apartments.
Iontas Computer Software were in residence in the Corn Store from
January 2000 until the middle of 2004, and employed 17 people. During
2003 North East Inishowen Tourist and Development Company Offices
occupied the bottom floor and still operate from there. The two
top floors are at present again being used as apartments.
