Bum Boating

This practice took place around Moville during the World War II.

“bum-boat men” small boats from Moville went out to ships in the bay to barter Eggs and chickens for tea [1 pound a lb – 2-3 days wages, probably ten times the cost!]

This extract was taken from www.bbc.co.uk to read more about bum boating and other activities during World War II, as remembered by Charlie McCann,Greencastle, Inishowen, Co Donegal, click on web address.
