Irish Police Force 1922

In February 1922 a new police force took over control
of policing in the Irish Free State from the Royal Irish Constrabulary.
Here, Garda Hugh Beatty is seen in May 1922, following his appointment
at the age of 26, He was on duty for th funerals of Michael Collins
and Arthur Griffith in Dublin, and he was also on duty when the
new Dail Eireann was in session. Large numbers joined the Civic
Guards from Donegal,
The Civic Guard was later renamed the Garda Síochána
and in 1925 the Dublin Metropolitan Police merged with the new
police force.
