Greencastle Inishowen
By Eileen M. Bennett
Illustrated by G. Ridsdill Smith
This little book has been written to give visitors to Greencastle
an account of the past history of the place - village, fort and
castle.
It was entirely due to Mr. Ward Jackson of London, a visitor to
Greencastle, that I became interested in local history, and it was
his suggestions, and those of Mr. H. P. Swan, the great authority
on Inishowen, that enabled me to discover the amazing wealth of
information in old books, records and State Papers. They have allowed
me to quote from their books and articles, and I should like to
thank them, and many other people, for their help, and for the loan
of books.
I have been fortunate in having the text illustrated by Captain
G. Ridsdill Smith of Haileybury College, who ever fails to capture
the spirit of Greencastle in his drawings and writings. He has allowed
me to conclude with an extract from an article in 'Country Life.'
