Helping to Defeat Depression |
Aware is a voluntary
organisation formed in 1985 to provide emotional
support and information to those who experience depression and
their families. Aware also seeks to create an increased public
awareness of the nature, extent and consequences of depressive
illness and promotes research into the causes and effective
treatment of mood disorder. The organisation offers a range
of services including a loCall Helpline (1890 303 302) which
operates from 10am -10pm on weekdays and until 1am at weekends.
There are over 60 Support Groups throughout the country, with
a number of local groups in the North West in areas including
Buncrana and Letterkenny. Buncrana Aware Depression Support
Group meets on the 2nd & 4th Monday of every month at 7.30pm
in the Nursing Unit, McGinn Avenue, Buncrana. Aware also delivers
a secondary schools awareness programme, talks, public lectures

Good Morning Inishowen
|
Good Morning Inishowen is a new and free Telephone
Link Line Service for Older People in the Inishowen Area (Those
aged 65 years and above.) Telephone calls are made to Older
People on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9.30am until 1pm.
Older People who choose to avail of the service will receive
a telephone call at a time decided by them. The main aim of
the telephone call is to ensure the Older person is safe and
well in their own home and to help the Older Person with any
enquiries they might have. Good Morning Inishowen hopes to
extend the present service and commence a Good Evening
Inishowen service. This should help make the long winter
evenings a little shorter and brighter for some of the older
people in the Inishowen area. Calls will be made on Tuesdays
and Thursdays from 6pm until 8.30pm. It is hoped that this
will allow individuals who would like to volunteer, but are
busy during the day, the opportunity to now get involved with
this service. If you are an Older Person or you know of an
Older Person in the Inishowen area who would benefit from
this telephone call please contact Ann Gill, Project Co-ordinator
at 93 21598 or call in and see us at 6 Ardaravan Square, Buncrana.
Volunteers: Do you have a couple of hours to spare
once a week? Would you like to get involved in your local
community? Are you a good listener? Would you like to learn
new skills and meet new people? Do you enjoy talking to older
people? If the answer to any of the above is yes, then Good
Morning Inishowen would like to hear from you, the service
needs new volunteers so that the calls to older people in
the Inishowen community can both continue and be extended.

is a rural based community led project responding to the issue
of Domestic Abuse in Inishowen. Our aim is to identify and respond
to the needs of Women and Children in Inishowen who are subjected
to violence and abuse in the home. Inishowen Womens Outreach

Information, Support, Outreach Services, Court Accompaniment,
Counselling for Women, Counselling for Children.

was launched in 1987 by Jonathan Irwin and his wife Mary Ann

Skills, Art as Therapy and Introduction to Computers. The programme
